Malawi and Mozambique
Pastor Manwick Nyosa on the recommendation of a visiting evangelist wrote to Eric in January 2007 inviting him to come to Malawi to preach the Gospel. At the time Pastor Manwick knew nothing about Lion and Eagle Ministries International; b
ut as he became aware of it, he increasingly felt burdened to bring his ministry within it and start Lion and Eagle Ministries there in Malawi. He felt very strongly that God had led him to Eric after many years in ministry without a covering and for a great purpose.
Pastor Manwick is married to Stella and they live in Blantyre, which is Malawi’s largest city and its main commercial and industrial centre. He claims 29 churches in Malawi and as many as 44 over the border in neighbouring Mozambique. All of these churches are said to have congregations of at least 200 and to be growing.
We have not been in a postion to visit the work out there ourselves for lack of funds and other preoccupations not least our move to the USA and the need to establish ourselves in the US. Even so, they have remained faithful and loyal to us.
We recently received this delightful gift (pictured) from the members of LEMI in Blantyre. It’s a framed ‘seed offering’ comprised of seeds, grains and beans and containing the message: “If God says Yes, who can say No?” Pastor Manwick writes that it is part of their tithes and offerings to honor us as their international leadership and they would send us more but the postage costs are prohibitive.
Pastor Manwick enclosed the two group photos which you also see: one is of himself and his wife Stella with some of the pastors of Blantyre, Malawi and other districts who are members of LEMI; the other is of a visit to Mandiwa, Mozambique to supervise their ministry in that place to orphans and the elderly.
There is a Lion and Eagle Ministries orphanage... a fact which so touches our hearts!
Some facts about these countries:
One of the substantial challenges in Malawi is that, in common with some other African countries, it has very serious problems with HIV and AIDS and therefore with: lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality, and a rising orphan population.
Malawi has a total population of approximately 13 million people. About 32 per cent of its urban population and 15 per cent of its rural population are estimated to be infected with the HIV virus. Mozambique with a population of approximately 17 million has identical problems.
Reportedly 26.5 per cent of adults in its central region are infected with the HIV virus. According to official figures the country appears to have over half a million AIDS orphans. As well as battling the HIV virus, Mozambique is also striving to recover economically after a civil war.
